Under the surface, Cannaregio features quiet, picturesque canals, secret, mysterious corners, and decent restaurants and shops, which makes it a great place to find a holiday apartment but at the same time allows you to retain some sanity. The best way to see Cannaregio and the greater Venice area is by foot. Alternatively, with the Grand Canal close by, you could take a gondola ride on the calm waters while taking it all in. While exploring the region, keep an eye out for the Ghetto Nuovo, a tribute built in place to honor all the fallen Jewish soldiers who died in the World Wars. This is a great place, famed for its enchanting atmosphere and laid-back persona. Restaurants that you might be interested in eating at include Rioba, 40 Labaron, and Il Migliore. Cannaregio is quiet and unassuming, and the locals are friendly and helpful, maybe because not many tourists prefer staying here. Don't miss the Ca' d'Oro, perhaps the most beautiful palace found on the Grand Canal, which has been transformed into a gallery. The Santa Maria dei Miracoli is a church set in marble, dating back to the Renaissance period. Fondamenta della Misericordia is the place to look out for if you want to find a healthy array of restaurants that are fairly priced and have great views of the canal. All in all, a holiday apartment in Cannaregio is bound to delight and surprise the regular traveler. The city is reminiscent of Russian Faberge eggs: there are so many delightful things to discover on the inside - all you have to do is to take the first step and explore Cannaregio. |
