Spend a few days in Vancouver and you may find yourself never wanting to leave. Stay any longer, and there is a fair chance you never will leave. The city itself offers stunning views of snowcapped peaks and vast mountain ranges.
Vancouver is 38km north of the United States-Canada border and more than 500,000 people live in the city precinct. There is lots of sunshine though on average 5.25 hours a day and spring comes early with the flowers in bloom by March. The combination of sunshine and world-class parks mean the city's residents love to be outside. Everyone seems to be jogging, riding bikes or going to exercise classes. If you are feeling energetic it doesn't get much better than a run along the Stanley Park seawall. It's 10.5km of picture-perfect views. Depending on the time of year it is possible to snow ski, sail and play golf on the same day.
The city has 23 neighbourhoods but most tourists only ever get to visit seven The West End, Yaletown, False Creek South, Kitsilano, Shaughnessy, Gastown and South Main. Yaletown is Vancouver's little Soho. The one-time warehouses have been converted into an eclectic mix of apartments, cutting-edge stores and chic restaurants.
