Le Miccine is an active wine estate. Guests are treated to a private tour of the facilities and a guided wine tasting—and they have the opportunity to learn about wine making in the heart of Chianti. English-speaking staff are on site daily and they can help with restaurant or museum reservations, driving directions, etc.
The residence at Le Miccine has been entirely rebuilt, furnished, and equipped to the most exacting functional and aesthetic standards to welcome a few discerning and demanding travelers. The 300-year-old stone house is now divided by floor into the Owners' Residence and a Guest Apartment, each with a fully-equipped, separate kitchen, large living room, two gracious bedrooms, and two new bathrooms. The ground floor Guest Apartment can be expanded with an optional third bedroom.
Because it was designed to be enjoyed in several configurations, the residence can accommodate 2 guests in a 1-bedroom apartment; 4 guests in a 2-bedroom apartment; 6 guests in a 3-bedroom apartment; 8 guests in 2 2-bedroom apartments; or 10 guests in the entire residence
The Guest Apartment
Le Miccine's lovely front terrace leads directly into the ground floor Guest Apartment. The Guest Apartment features a spacious, tastefully furnished living room with fireplace; a large modern kitchen with all appliances, including a dishwasher, as well as ample supplies of china, cookware, and utensils; and one or two large bedrooms, each with queen-size bed. An optional third bedroom with two twin beds can bring the total to three bedrooms. The two main bedrooms both have their own completely new, en-suite bathrooms that combine modern facilities with lovely Italian tiles and antique cabinetry. Every room is architecturally authentic and beautifully furnished.
The Owners' Apartment
An iron-gated stairway from the front terrace leads to the open air veranda of the Owners' Apartment, which overlooks the vineyards and woods of Le Miccine and the medieval Castello di Meleto beyond.
The Owners' Apartment includes a large living room, an equally large dining room with a massive, original Tuscan fireplace, a queen-size bedroom with a new en suite bathroom, and a second bedroom with twin beds and an adjacent bathroom.
The up-to-date kitchen is equipped with full-sized appliances, including a dishwasher, and all required dishes and equipment. As in the Guest Apartment, original Tuscan architecture has been preserved and restored, and furnishings are a combination of fine antiques and new, high-quality sofas, chairs, and beds.
The property can be rented entirely or as separate apartments.
Le Miccine’s historic role as a centrally-located way-station between Florence and Siena makes it the perfect base for touring all of Tuscany without the inconvenience of moving from hotel to hotel. Le Miccine lies close to the geographic center of Tuscany on the Strada Traversa Chiantigiana, half way between the towns of Radda and Gaiole, two of the three communes of historic Chianti. Castellina in Chianti, the third commune of the medieval League of Chianti, is 20 minutes away.
Today, these three towns, along with nearby Greve, define the heart of Tuscany’s wine and tourist region. Also within easy reach of Le Miccine are all of Tuscany’s lovely hill towns, including San Gimignano, the fabled walled medieval town known as the Manhattan of Chianti for its towers; treasures of the Etruscan civilization that flourished here 600 years before Christ; the famous wine villages of Montalcino (Brunello) and Montepulciano (Vino Nobile); and virtually all of the major Chianti, Brunello, and Vino Nobile wine estates. Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Siena, Orvieto and Assisi are all pleasant, comfortable day trips.
