Choose a holiday apartment in Turkey Coast FethiyeFethiye is as much of an attraction to nature lovers as it is to history buffs. It is a highly visited city and Fethiye apartments are usually full during the peak tourist season, so advance bookings are essential. This city lies in the Mugla province of the Aegean region in Turkey, over the ancient city of Telmessos in Lycia that dates back to the 5th century. Telmessos is steeped in legend and history, but unfortunately, very few of its ancient structures stand today because of its many earthquakes. The Hellenistic theatre by the bay is one of the rare and beautiful exceptions. Another survivor is the huge Tomb of Amyntas of 350 B.C., with beautiful carvings on its rock cliff. The tiring climb to the top is amply rewarded with amazing views of the whole bay and marina. The Fethiye Museum has ancient artifacts of various civilizations right from the Lycians, that tell of the city's history.Fethiye has done wonders for the tourism of the Turkey-coast, bringing in hordes of visitors and immigrants. The relatively cheaper lifestyle, affordable apartments in Fethiye and hospitable locals attract a lot of Europeans, especially the British; in fact, English has become almost as much of a native language as Turkish! It boasts of long summers with July and August recording the hottest average temperature of 34 degrees, and cool winters from December to February at 16 degrees, with occasional rain. One can ramble through the Old town of Pasaptur, shopping for interesting souvenirs, followed by some great dining ambience at the Deep Blue Bar. Holiday apartments in turkey-coast offer great views of the Turkish coastline, but the day-long cruise that explores 12 islands near Fethiye on board a yacht is a must-do. The highlight of this trip is the original Byzantine ruins at Gemile Island. Most locals hit the beaches on a weekend, so visitors looking to avoid the crowds should plan mid-week trips. There are Fethiye accommodation options to suit various budgets right on the beach. Calis offers a good stretch of coastline 5 kilometers (3 miles) to the north-east of Fethiye, while the lovely beach at Oludeniz, touted as the best in Turkey, is only 8.5 kilometers (5.3 miles) to its south. Fethiye is a convenient 50 kilometer (31 mile) drive by car or bus to the Dalaman airport. Another route to get here during the summer is a direct ferry service from the Greek island of Rhodes. With so much to see and do, a visitor must make multiple visits to do complete justice to Fethiye. |
