Turkey has 2 coast lines, one on the Mediterranean and one on the Black Sea. The western Mediterranean coast is also known as the "Turquoise Coast" for the beautiful colour of the sea. This coastline is dotted with popular holiday resorts including Alanya, Antalya, Belek, Colaki, Incekum, Kas, Side and Tekirova.

To visit the western coast of Turkey you will probably land at the international airport of Antalya. Antalya has an old quarter, Kaleici, with narrow, winding streets enclosed in ancient city walls. There's a great archaeology museum and plenty of historic buildings and ruins nearby. A good place for a base to explore the rest of region which offers some impressive ancient sites including the ruins of the cities of Simena, Myra, Phaselis, Perge, Aspendos and Side.

Izmir, the most western large city on the coast, has old charming streets, a port and a famous Bazaar with limitless shopping opportunities.

Turkey's Black Sea coast has a dramatic beauty. Legend says that in the quest of the Golden Fleece, Jason led his Argonauts along this coast. Main destinations here are Trabzon (Trebizond), Sinop, Ordu, Giresun and Samsun.
