This holiday Bed and Breakfast in Rio de Janeiro is located in the heart of Santa Teresa, the city’s
charming historic district. This 1960’s mansion was the former residence of the governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
The three rooms are in a separate part of the house overlooking the swimming pool. Privacy is assured as the guests have their own entrance, living room and terrace.
The rooms are tastefully decorated with an eclectic mix of antique, retro and objects from traditional and modern Brazilian artisans.
All rooms have double beds and security doors and windows. They are quiet and always cool with ceiling fans or air conditioning. Rooms are available either with en-suite, private or shared bathroom options.
Guests have access to the swimming pool and the 1700 sqm gardens with small monkeys, butterflies, fruit trees and many rare flowers and plants of Brazil. In the back of the house you will find a path in the garden with ceramic benches where you can sit and meditate while looking at the Bay of Guanabara.1700 square meters of gardens .
The street is secure with a watchman on duty throughout the night. We also have a guard-turtle who patrols the grounds…very slowly…
Journey up from downtown Rio on the antique yellow cable car and you will find one of the world’s most unique and charming neighbourhoods : Santa Teresa. Located on the hillsideoverlooking the Bay of Guanabara, the area is home to many artists, musicians and writers, giving it a distinctive bohemian vibe – no wonder it is known as the Montmartre of Rio.
Santa Teresa’s cultural life, bars and restaurants are only a few minutes walking (stumbling!) distance away. Five minutes down the hill takes you to Lapa, the home of Samba and Rio’s best bars, nightclubs and music venues set in the picturesque streets of colonial Rio.
We are very well served by local transport and the famous antique cable car of Santa Teresa.
If you want to escape the usual tourist trappings of the beach areas, Santa Teresa offers the experience of a real Rio neighbourhood and a chance to mix with locals.
Wander the tree-lined cobblestone streets past the colourful colonial houses and you are likely to stumble upon an impromptu musical gig, a poetry performance or locals enjoying a drink in front of one of the many bars and cafes.
