Vacation Rental Description

A newly renovated studio apartment in Santa Teresa, on a quiet dead-end street just around the corner from shops and restaurants. The studio has a separate entrance from our house, and guests have access to our garden. It is approx 40m2 and has a bathroom with large shower with excellent water pressure, and a kitchenette off a big studio space with huge glass windows to appreciate the spectacular view. The door and window frames, and bathroom counter are made of Brazilian Freijó wood and the space is furnished simply but tastefully. The furnishings include a double bed,  dining table and chairs, full kitchenware and utensils,  desk & chair, all bed and bath linens. As we are on a hill, the apartment has a fabulous view of greenery including pitanga, banana & avocado trees in our garden, as well as of the Centro, arches of Lapa, Cathedral, Bay of Guanabara & bridge to Niteroi. 

 

About Rio de Janeiro Santa Tereza

Our neighbourhood is simply wonderful -  a historic area in the heart of the city, set on a hill on the edge of the Tijuca forest - with winding cobblestone streets, no street lights and a 100-year old yellow tram which runs through it.  We are on a quiet, dead end street with a small museum (Chácara do Céu) and a park and cultural centre (Parque das Ruinas) which has free art exhibits, indoor and outdoor concerts, and an outdoor café with a fabulous breakfast on the weekends. At the end of the street there is a convenience store with a few tables that doubles as a bar, often home to impromptu samba sessions. We are a 5 min walk from the main area of the neighbourhood (Largo dos Guimarães) with approx 10 restaurants & bars, small shops and a small cinema which plays independent and foreign films with subtitles.  Lapa, the centre of live music and nightlife, is just 5-10 mins down the hill and Centro 10-15 mins down the hill. We are a 15 min walk from Gloria metro, and there are 2 bus lines and the tram stop just 3 minutes from our house. The beaches of Copacabana & Ipanema are just 15 minutes by taxi, or accessible by bus or metro. Santa Teresa is becoming an alternative destination for travelers who want to get the real feel of Rio and not just stay in the touristy high rise hotels by the beach
