It is also known for its vibrant atmosphere, bistros, shops, restaurants and cafes.  Rue Mouffetard is a medieval street famous for its market.

The neighbourhood, alongside students and professors, is now filled with an eclectic mix of Greek, Moroccan and Vietnamese restaurants along with local Parisiens.  There are also many second-hand book dealers along quai de Montebello.
