Choose a holiday apartment in New York East VillageNew York's East Village has practically attained the status of legend from being immortalized on the silver screen several times over the last few decades. It is an eclectic, artistic hub which has been the city's center of counterculture for decades. The East Village, after all, was the birthplace of the punk rock movement which rocked the 1970s and the Nuyorican literary movement. It has been featured, either as part of the Lower East Side or on its own as the East Village, in virtually every film about New York several times over. And its mystique is why it continues to appeal to tourists. Generally speaking, the East Village is deemed to be east of Broadway and the Bowery to the East River, between 14th and Houston Streets. Broadway itself is a significant draw, as one might well imagine; however, when you look at what the East Village has to offer, it's easy to see why you should rent a holiday apartment there and experience the magic that is a New York holiday. The Broadway sensation Rent, for instance, is set in the East Village, and there are many theatre fans who will admit to a natural curiosity about the rich artistry that is life in the East Village because of that play. There are many parks throughout the area, such as Tompkins Square Park. Tompkins Square Park is a 10.5 acre public park in the Alphabet City section of the East Village; historically speaking, this was the setting for the Tompkins Square Park Communist Rally in 1877 and the Tompkins Square Park Riot in 1988, which resulted in one of the first attempts to place a curfew on users of the park. The Toyota Children's Learning Garden was established as part of the New York City Restoration Project, and is designed with education in mind. The garden is designed with the intent of teaching children about plants, and was landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburgh's brainchild. Both the local parks and this Learning Garden will be very accessible from any of the East Village's local hotels. For those looking for a taste of the local arts scene, look no further than the long-running off-Broadway performance of Stomp! There's the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival in August, and the Bowery Ballroom, which features a variety of musical performances. In short, the East Village boasts a history which is breathtaking and is leading into a wonderfully vibrant future thanks to movements like the New York City Restoration Project. The East Village is a wonderful place to spend a holiday and explore the area; there are plenty of New York vacation condos in the area to choose to rent, so why not try one out today? |
