Bed & Breakfast Description

Casa dos Matos offers a harmonious blend of old and new, with a former circular threshing floor, or ‘eira’, providing the link between the family’s accommodation situated in the older part of the property and the new purpose-built guest facilities. The area, whose circular contours have been preserved, has been made into a comfortable lounge and dining room for the use of guests, where meals are served and a blazing log fire adds warmth on winter evenings.

 

The use of wood and exposed local stone gives a homely and rustic feel to the property, and ensures that it blends in perfectly with the surroundings.

 

The guest bedrooms (8, 2 Charme and 6 Íris) are simply but elegantly furnished in minimalist style, and adorned with paintings by local artists. Each room is decorated in a different colour, and all have private bathroom, TV and sofa with extra bed. A hearty breakfast is served of locally baked bread, home made cakes and jams, fruit juice, and a selection of cold meats and cheeses, or some free-range eggs if you fancy! and there is an enormous wood burning stove in the living room which provides both warmth and a cosy atmosphere.

Surrounded by the imposing limestone massifs, Casa dos Matos is a modern restoration which blends in harmoniously with the surrounding village, and which provides a base from which to explore a region of outstanding natural beauty.

Guest are invited to serve themselves from a well-equipped honesty bar, where you can sample from a selection of liqueurs made from local herbs and fruits.Outside, an attractive terrace overlooks the garden and swimming pool and offers splendid views over the nearby limestone hills. Rui and Rita will be able to give you assistance and suggestions for many local walks.
