Choose a holiday apartment in Koh Samui NathonKoh Samui is one of the jewels of Thailand, where nature is at its best. Swimmers, sunbathers and snorkelers flock to experience the beaches, where waves gently lap at white, sandy shores. Among the interesting sights, a pair of natural rock formations standing out in the sea appears very similar to the male and female human anatomy and is referred to as the Grandpa and Grandma Rocks, or Hin Ta and Hin Yai by the locals. The island's north end is graced by Big Buddha, a statue 15 meters in height.Nathon forms the administrative and commercial center of Koh Samui because of its strategic location. Most of the buildings are banks, post offices and government and public service offices. It is the main port and ferry cruises depart from here to Koh Phangan, Koh Tao and the mainland of Surat Thani. The pier offers excellent sunset views that should not be missed while on holiday in Nathon. All along the waterfront, there are small shops selling sarongs, baked goods, second-hand books and cafés offering internet browsing services. While these stores mainly cater to backpackers and tourists, the old wooden Chinese shops dotting the main road are usually filled with Thai locals; they come to buy gold, silk goods, shoes, electronics and miscellaneous items at cheap prices. Nathon is a good place to get bargains on souvenirs, antiques and handicrafts depicting the culture of Thailand. Thai cuisine is popular all over the world. The Nathon waterfront is dotted with seafood restaurants that serve spicy yet delicious food, using the local produce and flavors. It is easy to get accommodation such as beach-side villas at a reasonable cost, but most visitors set up their base in other cities of Koh Samui. Nathon is well connected to the neighboring cities of Lamai, Chaweng and Bohput by public bus and cabs on hire. Going a few kilometers south from here, the Wat Namtok Hin Lad is built amidst a lush green forest, with a waterfall as its backdrop. This temple also has a monastery and a meditation area. The entire complex is peaceful and rejuvenating. |
