Trendiest cocktail bars, South Copenhagen

Topic:

Cocktail Bars CopenhagenCopenhagen, the Danish capital, has long been known for its eclectic mix of architecture, attractions, and inhabitants. If it were to be compared to a drink, one would say Copenhagen is the cocktail of choice in Europe. It’s only fitting then, that this vibrant and stimulating city has recently joined a long list of illustrious destinations that have had a cocktail named after them. That’s right folks, say goodbye to the Singapore Slings, Havanas (or is it Havaianas?) and Long islands…the Copenhagen is in town!

Intoxicating for all the right reasons, the Copenhagen is the creation of one of the city’s most popular bartenders, who works in one of the city’s trendiest cocktail bars. Gromit Eduards, of Bar 1105, was the winner of the concoction-making competition back in 2009, and his mouth watering potion has been duplicated ever since in countless bars not only in Copenhagen, but all over the world. Based on the internationally renowned Cherry Heering, one of the most used liqueurs in the world, the Copenhagen is as much patriotic symbolism as anything else. The city is actually the birthplace of the Heering brand and has therefore been part of cocktail-history for many decades.

Want to know more about (and savour) the delectable beverage? Then book your holiday apartment in Copenhagen South and you’ll be within sipping distance of the best cocktail bars in town. Following are just some of the most delicious.

Bar 1105, 4 Kristen Bernikows
The cocktail bar of choice, to savour your very first Copenhagen, would have to be its birthplace: Bar 1105. This most trendy abode opened just a year before its resident barman joined cocktail-Royalty, yet had already succeeded in becoming one of the city’s most revered bars. Not necessarily for its subtle and unpretentious decor (which is rather refreshing), or for the overly-beautiful crowd it attracts (even better) but rather for the fact that here, it’s all about the drinks. Passion, professionalism and dedication in the mixing of liquor is what propelled 1105 into alcoholic stardom. The Copenhagen may take centre stage on the bar’s menu, but do venture into the more exotic concoctions available to really tantalise your taste buds. The cardamom and gin cocktails are to die for! Spend an evening being serenaded by Motown classics, and mingling with the city’s glossiest crowd and you’ll be singing the praises of Copenhagen(s) for many years to come.

The Front, Sanks Annae Plads 21
At the forefront of Copenhagen’s cocktail scene is the aptly name The Front, a hip establishment overlooking the harbour and boasting a sensual and inviting decor. The opulently furnished bar is where the city’s stylish young things come to hang out, and serves some of the most delicious cocktails around. Great chill-out music (Djs on week-ends), fabulous drinks and a happy crowd make this one of the very best choices for a swanky night out.

Ruby, Nybograde 10
Many say that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but in Copenhagen it’s the Ruby which takes centre stage. Utterly glamorous and up-market, Ruby has joined the city’s cocktail scene with enthusiasm and has already secured a strong cult following. Housed in an old apartment block, the bar itself is quite spectacular with its high ceilings and wooden panelling, and the staff is endearing and extremely passionate about their cocktail-making skills. Some swear that Ruby is the place in town to savour the perfect Manhattan, but we think Manhattans are soooooo 5 minutes ago. Come here and ask for a Copenhagen instead.

PS. If you’re dying to know what a Copenhagen tastes like, then go ahead and make one now! Next time you visit Copenhagen, you can decide for yourself just how good your own cocktail-making skills really are…

You’ll need:
2cl. Cherry Heering Liquer
2cl. Bols Genever
2cl. Sugar syrup
2cl. Freshly squeezed lime juice
1 dash Angostura Bitters

Now pop all the ingredients in your cocktail shaker, in the given order, add ice cubes and mix to your heart’s content. Strain before filling glass and top with 1 orange peel twist. Voila’!
