Heading to Phuket on your next family holiday? Oh some people have all the luck! While this tropical Thai haven is often regarded as an epitome party destination, the 8km stretch of pristine shoreline on its western side, Bang Tao beach, is steadily gaining a superlative reputation of one of the best family-friendly corners of Thailand. The waters are crystal clear, the beach immaculately maintained and the natural surrounding landscape simply breathtaking.
Activities for both young, and young at heart, abound; so finding activities to keep you and your youngest tots entertained and happy is a piece of cake. Book your gorgeous villa in Bang Tao Beach and come discover the very best family-fun activities around.
Horse Riding on the Beach
Ever dreamt of riding a valiant stallion along a beautiful beach at sunset? Well dream no more! One of Bang Tao’s most popular activities would have to be horseback riding on the beach and is specifically geared towards families.
Experienced and capable local handlers will hold on to the rains and guide your child on a relaxing, yet awe inspiring ride, from the horse ranch near the Laguna Complex, through the nearby golf course and all the way to the sea shore. Safety is paramount for the staff at the Riding Club and you can be assured that your children will be given a memorable, and safe, holiday highlight.
If you want to join them don’t be deterred; the staff at the Bang Tao Riding Club (394 Moo 1, Bangtao Beach) will be more than happy to let you stretch your legs (and your horses) once they’re confident of your riding abilities. So gallop away on the beach and both you and your children can be assured of a memorable experience.
Elephant Riding in the Jungle
For a spectacularly different and utterly Thai riding experience, head uphill to the Kok Chang Elephant Safari Park and jump aboard one of the world’s largest mammals. This company is considered Phuket’s best and comes highly recommended for entertainment, enlightenment and safety.
Set deep inside a dense forested jungle on the southern side of the island, this gorgeous elephant sanctuary gives you the chance to get close and personal with these amazing creatures. Rides vary in price and duration and they are suitable for even the youngest punters. Not only do you get a chance to ride an ellie, but you’ll also learn all about the conservation projects aimed at protecting them and you’ll have plenty of time to feed and interact with them as well.
A 30 minute elephant ride is 800bhat, and children under 11 pay only half price. Please keep in mind that competition for elephant riding is fierce in Phuket, so avoid any hassles and book directly with Kok Chang. The staff speaks English and you really need not go through an agency at all..many tourists have been swindled out of more cash, or brought to a different camp, by shady agents. Keep it simple and organize the trip yourself.
Take a Time Out
To be honest, there really is not much to organize if you really want to get the best family fun whilst on a Phuket vacation. All you need to do is pack up the kids and some sunscreen and head to the beach. Once there, you can go wild on activities such as windsurfing, kayaking or sailing, or you can simply lounge and read a good book while the kids frolic in the warm and calm waters of Bang Tao bay. There are numerous water sports agencies along the beach, as well as many eating and knickknack shopping opportunities, so make sure you have at least one full day of un-organized activity planned during your Phuket vacation.
