Three Fun Ways to get around Principe Real, Lisbon

Topic:

Principe Real is the fashionable district of Lisbon, only a few minutes’ walk from popular Bairro Alto. The home of Lisbon’s Botanical Gardens is a leafy suburb overflowing with trendy boutiques, fantastic eateries and a simply divine local produce market which is bound to enhance any self-catering holiday. When booking your holiday rental in Principe Real, you’ll really have the best of Lisbon right at your doorstep. The local metro station will see you reach every corner of town with ease, yet if the mere thought of getting around on the metro has you yawning with boredom, take heart! We’ve scoured the city and found the three best options for explore Lisbon in fun and unique ways. So follow our lead and come have some fun on your next Lisbon vacation. Do one, or all of the following tours, and your Lisbon vacation will certainly be an unforgettable adventure.

Get on your Segway!
We absolutely love Segways, especially in cities like Lisbon and Rome, which were both built on steep hills. Honestly, if we wanted a mammoth workout whilst on holidays we would’ve booked a room at our local gym! Anyway, booking a transport-included tour is always an option, yet we don’t always enjoy beating our drum to the beat of the tour guide. In Lisbon, we actually found the ultimate compromise. Here, you can simply hire your own Segway and go on your merry way independently. From as little as €18.50 you can explore the best attractions in Lisbon for an hour and a half. You’ll get a Segway, a short lesson, a helmet and an extensive city map so you can plan your most desired round-trip route.

Easy and extremely fun to operate, these ingenious ‘stand up scooters’ can be ridden by anyone between the ages of 12 and 100. Actually, the really fun part is overtaking huffing and puffing tourists as they make their way up the hills all around Lisbon. Don’t forget to smile as you glide past, they seem to really like that.

Go Lisbon…GoCar!
The ideal mode of transport for the orientationally-challenged tourist (we couldn’t be the only ones), the GOCar is a brilliant little vehicle which is GPS-guided; so even if you have no idea where you are, your car does. Genius! Drive yourself through and to the most popular areas of Lisbon, and take clear and precise directions from your GoCar’s built-in navigation system. Should you now be thinking ‘What’s the big deal?’ keep in mind that the talking GPS is a virtual tour guide which will not only guide you through Lisbon, but it will also provide plenty of information on all the tourist sites you come across. Not only that; the cars are bright yellow convertible little minis, so you know you’ll be looking super-cool cruising Lisbon in funky style. Hire fees are from €30 an hour, up to €90 for a whole day of self-driving pleasure.

Buckle up baby!
For a unique and totally fun way to get to know Lisbon, why not take a private tour by motorbike-sidecar? The ideal guided city tour for couples, the sidecar adventure is fun and informative, and it certainly beats taking the bus. You’ll get picked up from your holiday rental apartment in Principe Real and whizzed around town on two wheels, well three actually. Motorbike riding is extremely popular in this hilly city, yet letting someone else take the handlebar is a much safer and more rewarding option. An evening tour is pure magic, costs only €50 per person and will see you take in the best twilight viewing spots in town. Not only will you have a blast on this tour, but your personal tour guide will be able to cater the tour to your personal desires.
