Going out in Beyoglu, Istanbul
Topic: Istanbul Nightlife

Istanbul is considered by many who visit to be the epitome party town. Trendy bars and clubs abound and it’s easy to understand that, with such a young and energetic population, entertainment and nite-time fun is high on the country’s agenda. Just think that half of Turkey’s population is under the age of 28, and you soon understand why a buzzing centre like Beyoglu is home to so many clubs.
While many come and go every other day of the week, there are a few dependable staples. Head to the following bars on your next holiday and, if you drink in moderation, you may even remember your trip!
Mojo
A constant on the live music scene in Beyoglu is Mojo, a club on Istiklala Caddesi. This joint has been around for almost 20 years, is a great option for those who love their music loud, live and varied. From jazz to rock and even blues, the local bands are simply outstanding, and give our own pub-numbers a run for their money. Covers of well renowned English songs are usually done in the early evening, the music then switching to famous Turkish tunes. It is then that this place really rocks! Join the locals in some dancing and singing and you’ll soon be making new friends. Don’t worry if you don’t know the words, we guarantee you no-one will notice.
Nevi Bar
A monster of a bar, this place is located on Nevizade Caddesi and is spread over six enormous floors. The rooftop terrace offers great views of Istanbul by night, and the bar offers some of the cheapest beers in town. This combination attracts a young and varied crowd, and this bar is also a very popular expat hot-spot. The music can be a bit of a hit and miss, and it seems electronic compositions are back in fashion; at least here. You can always pop out onto the terrace to enjoy the views between gigs, and rejoin the action when it’s more to your liking.
5 KAT
For a slightly more grown up nite out, head to 5 KAT, a sophisticated bar on Soganci Sokak. This bar is owned by one of Turkey’s most famous actresses (Yasemin Alkaya), so the crowd is ultra-chic, the furnishings elegant and the cocktails wicked. The place to see and be seen, 5 KAT is on the 5th floor and boasts a large rooftop terrace, open only in the summer months. We’re not sure if it was the evening breeze, the flowing bubbles or the handsome waiters, but we were influenced to make a repeat visit during our stay. Make that visits.
