New York City is such an exciting place that it is possible to find new things to do every day of a long holiday. But, sometimes the sky high buildings can feel oppressive and getting out for a day trip can be totally refreshing.
The choice of day trips is impressive and below are listed some of the most popular.
NEW YORK DAY TRIP: BELMONT PARK RACE TRACK
Belmont Park race track is a superb way to spend a day outside of New York. It is set in 430 acres in Belmont, New York State and has two seasons. The first race season in 2009 lasts for 64 days and is from April 29 until June 26 and the autumn season is from September 11 until October 25.
NEW YORK DAY TRIP: NIAGARA FALLS
A day trip from New York City to Niagara Falls may seem a little ambitious but there are day trips that leave from Midtown Manhattan, take you to LaGuardia Airport and fly you up to Buffalo. From the airport there is a guided tour of the Niagara Falls and a ride on the Maid of the Mist boat. Once you have seen all there is to see of the magnificent Niagara Falls, its back to Buffalo and return to Midtown New York.
NEW YORK DAY TRIP: CONEY ISLAND
A great day out for families is a visit to Coney Island. Simply, take the subway from Manhattan to Coney Island where there are loads of holiday fun things to do such as ride on a rollercoaster, visit the New York Aquarium, and eat massive hotdogs as you stroll down the famous boardwalk by the sea. Make sure you eat the hotdog after going on the rollercoaster!
NEW YORK DAY TRIP: CAPE MAY
Cape May lies at the southern tip of New Jersey and was named after a Dutch sea captain who charted the area in the early 17th century. Today, Cape May is a wonderful seaside resort with award-winning beaches and beautiful Victorian buildings. In 1976, Cape May became a National Historic Landmark to help ensure that the historic structures remain intact.
Apart from the fabulous beaches, Cape May is world-renowned for its migrating birds and more than four hundred species of birds have been recorded. The best way to get to Cape May is by car and although it takes two to three hours from Manhattan, it’s worth the journey even if you cannot stay overnight.
