Getting to New York from the Airports

Most international travellers flying to New York City will land at one of three airports. The airport with the most traffic, handling about 48 million passengers a year, is JFK International Airport. JFK is situated in Queens County at the western end of Long Island, south east of New York City and is about 12 miles from Lower Manhattan.
GETTING TO NEW YORK FROM JFK AIRPORT
There are several ways of getting to New York from JFK and one of the least expensive is by the Air Train, which is part of the subway and commuter rail network. The Air Train stops at all the termini within JFK, the various parking and car rental lots, and hotel shuttle areas, and connects to the Long Island Railroad. The journey time from JFK Airport to Midtown Manhattan on the Air Train is about forty minutes.
By road, there are several public buses and private bus companies that link JFK to Manhattan and they are usually accessible to people in wheelchairs.
Hailing a Yellow cab is a traditional way to travel from JFK to Manhattan and the average cost is around $50. The journey takes about 35 minutes, although that definitely depends on the time of day.
For the wealthier, it is possible to take a helicopter from JFK Terminal 3 to the heliport on East 34th Street.
GETTING TO NEW YORK FROM LA GUARDIA AIRPORT
LaGuardia Airport is also in Queens County and is located in an area called Flushing Bay on the north shore.
Travel from LaGuardia Airport to destinations in Queens or Manhattan is easy by bus as several routes link to the New York City subway and also to the Long Island Ralroad. By bus, there are private companies that carry passengers from LaGuardia Airport to Manhattan and the Hudson Valley area.
LaGuardia always has plenty of taxi cabs offering regulated metered fares and the New York limousine service offers luxury travel to Midtown Manhattan in about thirty minutes.
GETTING TO NEW YORK FROM LA NEWARK AIRPORT
Newark Airport lies in the State of New Jersey, about 15 miles from Midtown Manhattan. The Newark Airport Air Train connects the terminals to Newark Airport Station which is served by Amtrak and New Jersey Rail Transit with connections to Penn Station in New York City.
There are also plenty of buses from Newark Airport to Penn Station.
