Vacation Rental Description

Tucked away in a secluded alcove of Megalochori, within a short stroll from the village square, Villa Io provides privacy and an ideal hide-away. Built into the volcanic rock the Villa once served as the village school to the local children. Today the interior is all white with beautiful arched interiors – the thing dreams of a Greek Island home is made of. The outdoor area is private and the hand-laid cobbled courtyard, complemented by a glistening pool, provides the perfect outdoor space for lazing around on hot summer days.
The layout of the villa takes the form of the traditional Santorini houses. The floors throughout the villa are traditional polished cement and are covered with rugs adding a cool and sophisticated air to the interior. As the village of Megalochori is surrounded by vineyards, the villa continues with this theme with unusual light fittings fashioned out of the basket-like vines.
The farm-style kitchen is large and fully equipped with modern appliances, an antique dinning table and beautifully crafted chairs. Cutlery and crockery are housed in an ornate antique dresser, adding an old-world charm to the kitchen.
The original double wooden doors open up into a single room and a staircase leads you up to a delightful den. The latter is best suited for children over 6, due to its size, narrow access and the sense of a loft hide-away.
Through an arched passageway, leading from the kitchen, you will find the comfortably appointed living room with doors leading out to the courtyard and pool. Doors lead from the lounge to a comfortable double bedroom. The open-space bathroom has a large shower, marble vanity, beautifully restored towel rails and a separate restroom.
This traditional Villa ensures tranquility, privacy and a taste of village life. Villa Io is ideal for families wanting to experience the true island life-style of days gone by without compromising on comfort.

Regarding the location of Megalochori we could say that is a lovely village located in the centre of Santorini, with white painted houses, beautiful churches, narrow cobble streets and a quant village atmosphere surrounded by vineyards. It provides a perfect base from where to explore the island of Santorini. To get to the best beaches of the island (Perivolos, Vlyhada, Red Beach) is just a 10 minutes’ drive. At the same distance is the capital (Fira). The village itself has 3 excellent restaurants (one owned by our company called RAKI),a local bakery & a mini-market. You can also enjoy a visit to the local winery Gavalas for wine tasting (2 minutes distance from the villa).Closing I would say that Megalochori is a  true reflection of the local Santorini experience!
