Vacation Rental Description
Fabulous views and many thoughtful details - traditional beamed ceilings, interesting alcoves and a stunning Moorish bathroom are there to be enjoyed, as well as the invisible comforts such as underfloor heating in winter and good showers with plentiful hot water. Casa Idrisi is named after Europe's first mapmaker the Moor Al Idrisi - whose route took him through Albuñuelas and along much of what is now the great GR7 walking route from Algeciras to Istabunal. One of the distinctive GR7 red and white markers is on the wall of the house.
Idrisi has the largest roof terrace of any of our village houses and boasts unparalleled views - not only down the valley to the Alpujarras, but also across the valley to the Rio Santo gorge and up the valley to the Sierra de Albuñuelas. The living room and master bedroom also enjoy stunning views. Idrisi also shares our garden amid the orange orchards - which can be used by tenants for picnics, BBQs, or splashing about in the paddling pool. It is situated close to La Joya, Casa de la Lagartija, Casa de la Puerta Grande & any of these properties can be rented out together to larger parties if desired. Car access is not possible to the house, but it is possible to park in the square nearby.

Albunuelas is a traditional Spanish village, situated in the famously beautiful Lecrin Valley, 25 mins from historic Granada &
Alhambra Palace and 35 mins from the Costa Tropical.
The village has several tapas bars and shops selling fresh local produce within 10 mins walk from the property.
The streets of Albuñuelas are redolent with the Moorish history of the area. Among the flower draped houses in the narrow cobbled streets you will find the remnants of a 14th century Arab tower, communal stone wash houses & elaborately tiled fountains, as well as a 17th century Archbishop´s palace. The 'acequias', or water courses, which have made this valley such a verdant paradise are another legacy of the Moors.
Life changes slowly here. The cavernous ground floors of the houses are still used to stable the mules and their friends the dogs, along with rabbits, turkeys, chickens and pigs at various times. The open top floors or 'miradors' are festooned with drying chillies & tomatoes at the end of the summer & hams & chorizo sausages being cured after the matanza - the killing of pigs in January. These jostle for space with bougainvillea and jasmine tumbling over balustrades.
On summer evenings neighbours sit on their doorsteps chatting in the moonlight & old men keep alive the craft of esparto grass weaving to make baskets and panniers for the mules.
Two bakeries deliver quantities of fresh bread & cakes around the village each day & the fish vendor delivers the morning's catch of fish, fresh from the ocean.
