About Florence Santa Croce

This holiday apartment in Florence is located in Piazza Santa Croce, a huge rectangular square that was created in front of the Franciscan Basilica in Florence. The whole Santa Croce is medieval in origin which can be clearly seen in many of the buildings surrounding the piazza. The church, Santa Croce, is the church of the Franciscans in Florence and is one of the finest examples of Italian Gothic architecture. Building started in 1294 and was eventually completed two hundred years later in 1442. Choosing holiday apartments in Santa Croce means living close to the masterpieces of Tuscan Gothic or proto-Renaissance painting: the Bardi and Peruzzi chapels' frescoes are by Giotto; the Baroncelli Chapel has frescoes by Taddeo Gaddi and a polyptych by Agnolo Gaddi, who also did the frescoes in the Castellani Chapel.
