Vacation Rental Description

Set in the courtyard of a former brewery, just off Calton Road, Craigwell Cottage is only minutes walk from many of the essential attractions of Edinburgh's historic centre. The Palace of Holyroodhouse, where the Queen's Gallery is situated, is only a few hundred yards away, and Campbell's Close which is opposite the cottage, leads directly to the Royal Mile at the top of which you will find Edinburgh Castle.

Craigwell Cottage was renovated in 2007 to the Visit Scotland 4-star standard, so you can be assured of the quality of the amenities there. Immediately beside the cottage is the private parking space which is yours for the duration of your stay - a real bonus in the city centre where parking is scarce and traffic wardens efficient! To the rear of the townhouses and apartments on the opposite side of the courtyard of Nether Craigwell you will also find the entrance to our 'secret garden' - a semi-wild garden which has stunning views over the Edinburgh skyline to the roofs of the Palace, the new Scottish Parliament and Salisbury Crags in Holyrood Park. You can even just see the Castle if you know where to look!

In the cottage you will find two bedrooms - one double and one twin - on the ground floor, along with the bathroom which has a bath and over-bath shower. On the first floor is the open plan living, dining and kitchen area which has French windows opening to the courtyard area and to the front of the property. Cooking and heating in the property is all electric. There is an oven and hob (stove top), microwave, compact dishwasher, washer/dryer and small refrigerator. A full range of cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery provides all you'll need for self-catering, although with so many restaurants nearby to choose from you may decide just to eat out.

About Edinburgh City Centre

I'm not the fittest person in town, but even I can be in John Lewis's within 15 minutes from leaving Craigwell Cottage - and it's quicker on the way back as there are several downhill routes. We're just over a mile from the Castle - but it takes ages to get there as you simply have to stop and explore all the many interesting historical sites, shops, cafes and so on en route. Every time I try to time the walking route to the Castle I find something which distracts and diverts my attention, and my time trial fails! So slow down, enjoy, stop 'ticking off the sites' for a bit and relax into your holiday - many of Edinburgh's attractions have been here for hundreds or even thousands of years, so they'll still be here on your next visit!
