Vacation Rental Description
This newly refurbished apartment, in an old stone building, has stunning views to Calton Hill and its eclectic collection of monuments – and also another spectacular view up the Royal Mile, with Canongate Kirk & its cherry trees in the foreground! Its located in Dunbars Close, on the historic Canongate section of Edinburgh's famous "Royal Mile" and has been fully refurbished in early 2008, to a very high standard (4 star Visit Scotland rating) – with lots of attention to detail to ensure you enjoy a very comfortable & refreshing stay.
The apartment has a good sized double bedroom and a smaller one that can be set up with either 1 or 2 beds. One of the beds is a “small single” so best suited for a small adult or child. The bright open plan (L-shaped) lounge, dining area & kitchen has 3 large windows giving the fabulous views mentioned above. There's real oak flooring in the hallway & living area and the furnishing is of a high quality contemporary style – with a few antique twists! We hope our guests will enjoy the design features and art in the flat.
Dunbars Close Garden, set out in 17th century style, adjoins the property and provides a beautiful tranquil spot to relax in. It is open to the public from dawn to dusk.
About Edinburgh City Centre
There’s a host of Edinburgh attractions literally on the doorstep – the Scottish Parliament, Holyrood Palace, the Queen’s Gallery, The People’s Story, the Museum of Edinburgh, the Scottish Storytellers Centre, the Museum of Childhood and the Poetry Library are all less than 5 minutes walk from the flat! The castle is just 20 minutes up the road - tho you’re likely to get distracted en route with other attractions such as the ghosts of Mary Kings Close, “Nessy” at the Loch Ness Monster Experience, the amazing Camera Obscura, the Scottish Whisky Experience and all the wonderful potential discoveries of old closes and wynds leading off the Royal Mile.
The wild open space of Arthurs Seat & Salisbury Craigs is also just round the corner (<5mins) – fantastic for a bracing hillwalk, a challenging jog (there’s a road running up and round the hill – approx a 5k route) or simply just to admire the magnificient rugged hillside views in the heart of the city.
Of course there’s a huge variety of restaurants and pubs within the same close vicinity. Galleries, theatres & cinemas are also not far away – Dunbars Close is truly in the heart of a wonderfully varied and stimulating city!
