Vacation Rental Description
Location, Location, Location is always desireable and this excellent city centre Edinburgh apartment has that as it is located immediately beside historic Edinburgh Castle in very heart of the Old Town. This first floor apartment in Edinburgh is four star rated and can sleep up to a maximum of four persons. The accommodation consists of a lounge / dining room, double bedroom and twin bedded room, and windows of these rooms looking directly out onto Edinburgh Castle. As the castle is floodlit in the evening it provides an ever changing outlook from the apartment and gives better castle views than the majority of Edinburgh Hotels and other accommodation providers.
Although having been fully upgraded to include modern facilities and gas central heating, the apartment has natural wood finishes throughout, including original internal working wooden window shutters and still retains plaster cornices plus other traditional features. The large lounge / dining room has an antique fireplace and for our guests convenience it is fitted with an electric fire. One lounge window overlooks Johnston Terrace, the Castle and the western skyline, whilst another two windows look out over the south side of the city and beyond to the Pentland Hills. The fully fitted compact kitchen has an electric cooker, microwave and fridge. An automatic washing machine / drier is housed in a small utility room. The modern bathroom has a bath, shower, illuminated mirror and a dual voltage shaver point. There is a double bedroom and the second bedroom has twin beds, the windows of these rooms also look out at the Castle.
The informality and presentation of the apartment enables guests to enjoy and appreciate relaxed home from home comforts during their stay however for those wishing to make the most of their stay and get away from the cooking chores there are a wide variety of restaurants, bars and eating establishments nearby, some of which provide home delivery. The restoration and upgrading of the apartment has successfully integrated many traditional features whilst providing modern facilities and this successful combination along with its close proximity to Edinburgh Castle, Tartan Weaving Centre, the Scotch Whisky Experience, the Camera Obscura, The Hub, Gladstones Land, The Scottish Genealogy Society plus numerous historic buildings, attractions, museums, art galleries, shops and theatres, has been recognised by the Scottish Tourist Board Quality Assurance grading inspection as an excellent residence for either a vacation, holiday, a short break or a business stay at anytime throughout the year.
About Edinburgh City Centre
The beautiful and vibrant City of Edinburgh, the Capital of Scotland, is built around the magnificent and historic Edinburgh Castle. Over many centuries the town and city have grown out from the fortified walled Old Town to the Georgian “New Town” and further expansions and developments have brought about this vibrant modern city. It has, throughout all these changes, managed to keep its magnificent architecture and natural beauty and these are readily available to be seen by the discerning traveller. It is because of this, that both the Old Town and New Town have become World Heritage Sites.
The city is popular with both visitors and local inhabitants as the city centre is so compact, full of fascinating places with historical significance, most of which are within short walking distances of each other. Throughout the year it has many special events including International Festivals, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the New Year Hogmanay party to name but a few.
This city centre apartment is in a prominent building on the north side of Johnston Terrace, immediately beside Edinburgh Castle. Johnston Terrace wynds westwards from the Lawnmarket / Royal Mile down passed the Castle to Castle Terrace and onwards to the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Usher Hall and the New Edinburgh Business & Conference Centre.
The castle is beside the apartment and displayed within the castle are the Scottish Crown Jewels, the Stone of Destiny, as well as many items of historical interest. From its position high on Castlehill, Edinburgh Castle has magnificent views over the City and the surrounding countryside. The shores of the Forth Estuary and the Port of Leith lie to the north and moored here is the former Royal Yacht “Britannia”. To the south lie the Pentland Hills on which can be seen the artificial ski slopes. Being in the heart of the Old Town, the apartment is only metres from the Lawnmarket and Royal Mile well known for their shops and attractions as well as their historical and pleasant buildings. Located below Johnston Terrace is the Grassmarket, infamously known for its hangings and history, but now a pedestrain friendly area with many bars and restaurants which provide a cosmopolitan atmosphere. The Georgian New Town famous for its architecture, is only a short downhill walk from the apartment, as is Princes Street renowned for its shops and Princes Street Gardens for its beauty. As there is much to do, to see, and to visit nearby and in the surrounding area, it makes the apartment the “ideal home in the City” in which to stay and from which Edinburgh can be toured and enjoyed, to do what you want, when you want and how you want. It is also a well suited place in which to relax for coffee or wine during a busy or lazy day or before setting out to take in the varied evening and night entertainments on offer in Edinburgh.
