Dubai Marina is part of the city-within-a-city concept, and its design includes a Venetian-style central waterway that runs through the center of the district. The marina is home to a stunning collection of architectural masterpieces - residential towers and commercial buildings that reflect the sparkling blue Mediterranean Sea. It also includes kilometers of landscaped public walkways so visitors can easily stroll through the area. The first phase of what is being called the "Tallest Block in the World" is complete. By the time development is finished, the marina will have more than 20 high-rise buildings and apartments, including the Pentominium, which although dwarfed by the nearby Burj Khalifa (829 m/2,723 ft), will still be one of the world's tallest at 516 metres (1,693 ft).Dubai Marina Mall offers the best of all the big malls in one location. The mall stays open until midnight on weekends, giving you plenty of time to indulge the shopping bug. It hosts a number of excellent restaurants, including the fine Lebanese dining franchise, Cafe Blanc, where the unique decor takes you right outside of the mall and into an elegant Mediterranean beach cabana. The Beach Bar & Grill is another popular spot nearby, where you can enjoy fresh seafood and the chef's signature dish, a spicy clam stew called Portuguese cataplana. Dubai Marina is near the Jumeirah Palm and the Emirates Golf Club, and Jumeirah Park and public beach are within walking distance. Should you wish to explore other parts of Dubai, Dubai Marina apartments make for a great home base. The Dubai Metro, a unique fully automated driverless train, connects to the marina, and the metro line provides access to the rest of the city and downtown Dubai. Also nearby is the Dubai Waterfront and the Mall of the Emirates, where you can ski in the desert! From the Dubai Marina you can hop onto an open-top Big Bus and take a day or night sightseeing tour.
