Founded by Romulus and Remus (or so the legend tells us...), Rome is the capital of Italy and the largest city in Italy. Rome is located on the banks of the river Tiber, in the central-western portion of the Italian peninsula. Rome is said to be the birthplace of western civilization and one of Italy's most vibrant cities.
Rome is also home to the holy kingdom of the Vatican City – spiritual centre of the Roman Catholic Church and home to the Pope. The Vatican City is in fact a sovereign territory and the smallest nation in the world. The Vatican remains a spectacular destination for history enthusiasts, religious followers and art-lovers alike.
History and architecture lovers are bound to compare Rome to a treasure trove: from Baroque fountains to Renaissance churches over to ancient Roman ruins, the city has it all; indeed a walk through Rome is a walk through time. Nicknamed the "Capital of the World" Rome represents one of the greatest cultural, religious, and intellectual centers of the world.
