A friend was there last spring and didn't spend much more than in other famous vacation destinations, too. Reducing your standards will definitely help saving money.

Dubai must be a great city. And indeed if you reduce your standards you will save some money. But I think during holidays you spend more money than you would normally do when you were at home.
