London, England, attractions – The HMS Belfast

London, England is a city full of interesting tourist attractions and one of my favourite attractions of all in London, is HMS Belfast, an old British battle ship. The HMS Belfast is located on the banks of the river Thames, in front of the Tower of London.

The HMS Belfast served during the Second World War and she played a big part in the Normandy Landings. Up to 950 crewmembers could stay on this ship, which is the largest Staying in Londonsurviving example of British big battle ship. The HMS Belfast served the nation of Britain until 1965, she was saved for the nation in 1971 and the museum on board this ship was opened in 1978. Since then, the HMS Belfast has been on display in London to educate the visitors on the period of history that she represents.

If you are in London, it is really worth visiting the HMS Belfast, for the perfect reconstructions she hosts of the life of the people living and fighting on this ship. Every detail is perfectly reproduced. In every section and room of the HMS Belfast there are wax reproductions of sailors and their daily activities on the ship. For example, there is the canteen, the bakery, the laundry, the sick bay, the place where sailors slept in hammocks and more. Every ambient is represented in every details, so much so that even smells (i.e. the smell of disinfectant in the sick bay) and noise have been perfectly reproduced. The HMS Belfast also hosts a museum with photos and documents, educational activities, exhibitions and events. The HMS Belfast can also be hired for corporate and private functions, including weddings.
