ART: Venice Film Festival

Did you know that the oldest film festival still held to this day is the Venice Film Festival? The first festival took place in 1932 and was called ‘Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica’ but it was not until 1979 that the Venice Film Festival started to be held annually.

The festival has a great following and attracts all genre of film and entrants in the festival are from around the world. The chief prize of the Venice Film Festival is the Leone d’Oro, the ‘Golden Lion’. The winner of the Golden Lion in 2005 was a film entitled Brokeback Mountain.

This year the festival will be held this year from August 30th to September 9th 2007. This festival attracts tourists as well as film professionals and artists, since it provides such great entertainment, and is genuinely exciting. You cannot compare it to the Oscars, but it certainly attracts all the glamour and celebrities of the movie industry.
