We have had to do a huge building work to unify the two parts of the house, done during the year 2003 and in the named of the former occupants we have given the house the name of Maison Sauvaire & Vernoux. The house has 4 bedrooms with private toilette and bathroom a Kitchen a dinning room and a living room.
For whenever you will decide to come, for holiday’s weekends or maybe private or family reasons you will appreciate the tranquillity and the beauty of an exceptional site.
The house looks like it’s a house from the III Century although their Age is uncertain. The top part of it belongs from 6 generations old to the Sauvaire Family. In the old days they use to live in the highest street of the village although their home was far to expose to the Mistral so they decided to move to here instead as it was much protected against the wind.
Marie Sauvaire, the last descendant that lived in the house married a young man from Entrevaux, Pierre Vernoux. They had 6 children of which from the first 5 of them one named Antonia where born in the house. Antonia married a young man from Piamonte, Joseph Luciano and although the majority of their lives they lived in Grasse, they kept their house as a secondary home.
The bottom part of the house orientated to the south belonged to Marie Henri. As she didn’t married or had any children she gave her home to Antonia, her best friend. On the outside of the house you can appreciate on the front wall a curious sculptured lintel.
The village of Briançonnet its at 1010 m high in a port surrounded by fields of grass and bare rocks from where you can appreciate a wide panoramic view from the top of the Estéron river.
The village gained in the year 63 the right of the Roman City and reached its high momentum on the third century as an administrative centre. Briançonnet then would become the private seat of the bishopric from Glandèves.
The city gradually declined as well as its population because of several plagues and wars, especially during 1914 till 1918 where a whole generation of men were devastated during those years. In the following years the majority of its population migrated to the coast although many of these kept their houses as a secondary home.
