This Rome apartment was everything we hoped for and more. The second bedroom is a bit far away from the first but works well if you have a teenager like we do. Clean, spacious, comfortable, and right in the heart of things. A little grocery store literally across the street and a bigger one about a block away. Wonderful little restaurant just a block away: Colline Emilaine. The man who met us at the Rome accommodation when we first arrived to give us the key was very nice, on time, professional, and helpful.Everything worked as expected and there were no surprises. Great.Entrance was off a small street but felt safe -- even at night -- with lots of little cafes and other small hotels nearby. Highly recommended!

We stayed at the Fontana Grande as a group of 5. The apartment was very spacious with large bedrooms, kitchen, dining room and living area. We also had 2 bathrooms. The apartment was in an excellent location being close to Trevi Fountain and other tourist locations. Below the apartment was a bar/cafe and across the laneway was a delicatessan. Would definitely stay at this apartment again.

I had a very good feeling about this place from my first interactions with James Burrows while trying to make the reservations online. Interacting with him over phone and e mail assured me that we were on to a good thing. There were four of us (two middle aged couples) and were delighted to have the car sent to pick us up at Rome Centrale. The young man who came to meet us was really nice but he took us to the wrong apartment on the same floor and we were horrified to see that it was not the one we had booked. Fortunately after I explained to him and he made a call to his office we were shifted to the right one. As far as the Velvet staff is concerned we had no problem whatsoever thereafter. They were always available, courteous and helpful.Coming to the apartment itself it looked exactly as in the pictures - neat and compact. The only minor issue could be that the furniture looks good but fragile. Maybe this should be looked into. One of the dining table chairs had a broken leg and if we had not realised it someone could have had a bad fall.Other than this, the appartment was good, the kitchen had most of the things we needed, one had to just find them. It might be a good idea to tell the guests of the stuff (consumables mostly) already in the flat. Similarly, people coming from hot countries like us are not used to heating and as it is heating systems vary around the world. Without knowing which side was 'hot' and which 'cold' we ended up in a bit of strife for a day or so before we figured it out.The grocery shop right opposite the appartment is a great boon and we got everything we needed without any problem and at a very reasonable price from a very nice owner.Another issue could have been the bunker beds. They are okay, maybe, for children but wouldn't do for grown ups. The sofa cum bed (one of them) was better and is the one people will always use for the second bed.The second sofa-cum-bed was very uncomfortable and one could not have slept on that. The appartment was clean and tidy (the two ladies with us also did a good job to keep it that way) and the washing machine was very useful It might be a good idea to keep a kettle for making tea. Not all people have coffee in the morning. We tried to buy one but could not get one - or didn't g to the right places. The best thing about the place is its location (the reason why we chose it to start with) and being able to walk over to Trevi Fountain whenever we felt like was lovely. The metro stations was also so close. We had two mis-haps during our stay. My pocket got picked in the train right at Barberini station and secondly I was charged TWENTY % commission by the change guy just outside Spagna station. Since the amount I was changing was a thousand US Dollars and since the person who changed the money for me gave me the right exchange rate (without mentioning such an unexpectedly high commission) I got a very unpleasant shock.I mention it here because I had called up the Velvet office to ask where I could change my money and they had directed me to this place. I wish they had also known (told me) of the exorbitant rate) so that I may not have changed such a large amount. After having changed the money they were not willing to reverse the entry. I think this was outrageous. No fault, directly of Velvet but a warning for any future travellers who may read this.If I have to go to Italy again, I will surely have Velvet high on my options, I will just think of carrying my own kettle and take better care of my money :-(Oh yes it was definitely value for money.

The apartment was as described, clean and welcoming. Your representative was on time, efficient and most helpful. We have visited Rome on several occasions but this would make an excellent base for first time visitors being centrally situated

Fantastic location, only a few minutes walk from many tourist attractions, supermarket and amazing cafes. Clean and relatively spacious accommodation. Would highly recommend this apartment for the price and facilities offered.

This was our first visit to Rome and having made all our bookings online we were just a little worried although James at Holiday Velvet had been very helpful. Unfortunately we did have a few problems on our arrival at the airport. Although I had notified Holiday Velvet of changed flights, and they had acknowledged the changes, there was no car to meet us. When we finally made contact Gino was very good and even stopped at a bank for us to withdraw the required money for final payment. However, there was a final mix up re payment for pick up & return to the airport. Fortunately I carried copies of emails verifying the offer made to us so all was eventually sorted. The apartment was in a great location, was very roomy and although there was quite a lot of noise at night that was a small price to pay for the convenience of being right in the middle of Rome. There is a problem with hot water though. It took 20 minutes for the hot water to come through the showers and then if you over adjusted the cold water it took another 20 minutes for the water to come through hot again. Not good! The apartment was reasonably clean although I did find an unwashed oven tray in a drawer. A few problems, but we did enjoy our stay, location perfect!!

The location of this property was excellent, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby and very near to the Trevi Fountain.I could not fault the cleanliness of the place. However, I feel that the flat could do with a lick of paint as everything is beginning to look a little tired. The hot water system certainly needs attention: in the evenings water seems to just run out and I was twice left shivering in a cold shower.Overall, a satisfactory experience.

Review:
The location of the Fontana Grande was well placed for access to so many places - including the tour buses. Once we got used to the 'people and traffic noise' in the area it was fine. Unfortunately our visit coincided with structural building works next door resulting in a 6:00am wake up call every day! Rome was magnificent and although the weather was fine and sunny but .....bitterly cold, our apartment was beautifully warm. We were met on arrival and thanks to good collaboration, the tickets we had organised for the Six Nations Rugby match between Italy and Ireland were all present and correct and waiting for us. We had pre-arranged a taxi from and to the airport - an excellent service and very prompt! We would have appreciated a small basic needs welcome pack - the means to make a drink. Also, the shower facilities could be improved - if only by replacing faulty showerheads. In the main, we didn't spend a great deal of time in the apartment but when we were there, it was perfectly comfortable and fitted our needs. We would consider booking this facility again and will definately be contacting Holiday Velvet again to help us with our holiday locations.

The property was large, clean and its location was excellent. Air conditioning was provided by two mobile units in the living room and the second bedroom, with a fan in the main bedroom, which was fine for the amount of time that we spent in the apartment. It was secure and we felt perfectly safe in the streets surrounding the property. We were met by the agent who was very efficient and provided full information.

We have just returned from our trip to Rome and we were delighted with the lovely apartment and how the cars were waiting for us at the airport and at the apartment on departure. We will not hesitate to use your company again and recommend you to friends and family. Many thanks.
