WOLF CREEK CABIN is a Canadian Rockies villa and was completed in late summer 2006, situated on over 100 acres of forest and meadows backing onto 30+ miles of Crown land, with endless miles of hiking and ATV trails & old logging roads right outside your door. Enjoy the outdoor amenities of our beautiful location, with the privacy of your own cabin.
This is where you should be if you need/want to escape the stress and grind of everyday living. No phones, TV or internet (although a phone & internet access are available for use at our main home). Come relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. The property has two creeks and two lakes on it. A short walk takes you to Ha Ha Lake with great swimming and fishing opportunities. A ten minute drive puts you at Lake Koocanusa with world class fishing and boating. The nearby town of Cranbrook, known as the "sunniest place in B.C." (averages over 300 days/year of sunshine), offers a multitude of dining possibilities as well as a multi-screen movie theatre, shopping, & several heritage centers.
The cabin is of timber-frame construction, approximately 600 square feet, and features a loft bedroom with queen bed. A fully-equipped kitchen features a stove/oven, refrigerator/freezer, toaster and coffeemaker. The breakfast bar has a unique handmade table constructed from prehistoric (50,000 years old) Kauri wood imported from New Zealand. The dining area has a gorgeous burled wood table with seating for four, while the main living area has a double futon, loveseat, and leather recliner. The bathroom includes a large ceramic tile shower in addition to the toilet and sink (with on-demand hot water). The cabin is fully electric (others in the area offer propane appliances & lighting, as well as outdoor bathroom facilities -- be sure to ask!).
The cabin has a large wrap-around deck and balcony with table, lounge chairs and sunbrella. A nearby hammock beckons you for an afternoon slumber, where you can hear the sounds of our 'babbling brook' as it meanders through the meadow. The gas barbecue grill awaits your freshly caught fish or other local delights.
There is a wood fire pit with log sitting area for building those evening campfires. Sit around and tell stories, sing songs, or listen to the sounds of the coyotes and wolves in the surrounding hills. A multitude of wildlife lives in our area, including both mule and white tail deer, elk, moose, the above mentioned coyotes & wolves, wild turkeys, bald and golden eagles, along with your occasional rabbits, badgers & ground squirrels.
Pets are generally welcome, but must be approved in advance. We occasionally board dogs at our home (also on the property -- about a five minute walk from the cabin) and may have space available if you need someone to watch your four-legged children while you explore the surrounding areas.
A number of board games are available for your entertainment; we also have a large amount of reading material (aka books!) which you may borrow during your stay.
Located in the East Kootenay region, the property is about 25 minutes from Cranbrook, the sunniest place in B.C. This area is nestled in a valley between the Purcell and Rocky Mountain ranges with spectacular mountain peaks. Nearby, the Kootenay, Elk and Bull Rivers offer world class fishing and canoeing/kayaking, while Lake Koocanusa has boat rentals and swimming. Come see why this area is so popular with tourists. It’s simply magnificent!
Golf enthusiasts will find over a dozen courses in the area, including the Delta St. Eugene Mission Resort (ranked top 3 best new Canadian courses in 2001 by Golf Digest), Trickle Creek Golf Course, Kimberly Golf Club, Mission Hills Golf Course, Cranbrook Golf Club, Bootleg Gap, Riverside Golf Resort and Eagle Ranch Golf Resort.
Fly fishing is a popular sport in the Cranbrook area, with many knowledgeable guides who can set you up with what you need. Both rivers and lakes abound. Premier Lake, about an hour north of Cranbrook, is a beautiful, emerald-green lake surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, and is known for its rainbow and brook trout. Moyie Lake, just a short drive from Cranbrook, is home to rainbow trout, Dolly Varden and Kokanee. Near our vacation properties is Lake Koocanusa, where you can catch Kokanee and cruise for miles. Other popular lakes include Tie, Norbury, Baynes and Jim Smith lakes. Many lakes have catch and release programs, so pick up a copy of the fishing regulations from the visitor's center or one of the sporting goods stores.
The East Kootenay is home to elk, moose, white tail and mule deer, black and grizzly bears, cougars, bighorn sheep, and many species of migratory and resident birds. There are plenty of opportunities to view and photograph wildlife, and for those who prefer to shoot the animals rather than photos, many guide outfitters in the area offer hunting trips to any size group. Visit the BC Access Center on Cranbrook Street North to obtain the information you'll need for hunting.
With more sunshine hours than any other city in B.C., many locals like to bike or hike the wide variety of trails in the area. Fisher Peak, Cranbrook's signature mountain, stands 2,900 metres. The hike is demanding but can be worth the effort. Trails in the city include the Rotary Way Cycle Walk Trail, Elizabeth Lake Wildlife Sanctuary, South Star Recreation Trails, Cranbrook Community Forest, and Isadore Canyon. Of course, you can hike for miles and days right off of our property in the Mayook Valley. We border over 30 miles of Crown land, and it has numerous old logging roads and animal trails to hike.
For your dining pleasure, Cranbrook offers over 50 restaurants featuring a wide range of food, including Cantonese, Greek, Mexican, Italian and German. Additionally, most of the 'fast food' chains have a presence in Cranbrook, including Wendy's, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Tim Horton's, Subway and A&W.
Cranbrook's community facilities include swimming pools, a curling rink, performing arts theatre, multi-screen movie cinema, and a library.
