Vacation Rental Description

'Chene Vert' is one of 5 beautifully restored cottages at 'Le Jardin des Amis' a small gite complex set in 7 acres on the edge of the village of Meyrals. The cottage is open plan on the ground floor with many character features: exposed oak beams, the original stone floor, 'pierre apparent' walls and a large fireplace with wood-burning stove for low-season lets. A spiral staircase leads to the first floor where there are two bedrooms under exposed beams and sloping roofs. one bedroom has two single beds and the other a double. Both bedrooms have wash-hand basins and there is a seperate toilet and shower room.

The front door of the cottage leads out to the veranda and garden, whilst behind the cottage is a gravelled eating area and steps leading up to the pool and bar. Beyond the pool is a large grassed area suitable for ball games, the orchard and a large wild-flower meadow where guests may wander!

'Le Jardin des Amis' is wonderfully located as it enjoys rural peace and quiet whilst being only a short stroll from the village centre with it's boulangerie, restaurants and bar. Also in the village is a 'brocante' (antiques shop), post office and a number of artists galleries. From our location here in Meyrals it is possible to reach a large percentage of the Dordogne's most important tourist sites without driving for longer than about 20 minutes! The village is sandwiched between the Dordogne and Vezere river valleys with the Vezere being internationally important for it's prehistoric sites whilst the Dordogne has many historical reminders of the long associations with England and is littered with picturesque'bastides' - the fortified villages built on a grid pattern.The French national museum of prehistory can be found, along with many caves open to the public, in Les Eyzies, 10 minutes away. The medieval town of Sarlat with its quaint narrow streets, superb buildings and huge open air market is only 15 kilometres away.

For the energetic, there are many activities available, including canoes for hire on both rivers (a fantastic way to view the many castles), walking the many circular 'boucle' routes, cycling, ballooning etc.

The 'perigord noir' region is renowned for it's gourmet delights such as black truffles, fois gras and local 'cabecou' goats cheese which can be sampled in many of the local restaurants.
