Choose a holiday apartment in Berlin Prenzlauer BergHip, happening and increasingly high-class, the Prenzlauer Berg is one of your best choices for renting a Berlin holiday rental. Once dominated by a radical and arty crowd, Prenzlauer Berg is nowadays as popular with pram-pushers as it is with punks and painters. What's more, the area is drawing in more and more tourists and therefore you'll find a range of budget to luxury accommodation in Prenzlauer Berg. While the area is increasingly hot with visitors, this is still one of the few districts of the city where you can experience 'the real Berlin', away from all the tourist traps. It is also one of the few areas of Berlin that escaped extensive bombing in WW2. You can enjoy exploring the old streets and admiring the art nouveau buildings before browsing some of the individual and unusual shops that dot the tree-lined streets. Follow with some culture at Rykestrasse Synagogue, Germany's largest synagogue. The impressive building was opened in 1904 and is of Neo-Romanesque style. Ensure you join a tour, as you can't gain entry as a tourist otherwise. The Jewish cemetery on Schönhauser Allee is also well worth a wonder. Painter Max Liebermann and composer Giacomo Meyerbeer are both buried here. If greenery is more your thing, head for Mauerpark ('wall park'), previously home to part of the Berlin Wall. There remains a 30m-part of the wall still standing as a memorial. No visit to Germany would be complete without sampling its famous beer, and where better to do that than at Prater, home to Berlin's oldest beer garden, which was opened in 1837. Prater also serves food, including bratwurst, organic frankfurters and pretzels. If you're still hungry, head for the laid-back Entweder Oder, an organic restaurant with a different menu every day. The magnificent Gugelhof is also one of Prenzlauer Berg's culinary highlights, offering Alsace cuisine in a quite formal setting. If it's authenticity you're after, you'd be hard-pushed to find a better place to stay than Prenzlauer Berg. If you want your Berlin accommodation to be as real as the area it's in, apartments are a far better choice than an impersonal hotel. Look no further for the best choice of Prenzlauer Berg apartments. |
