Choose a holiday apartment in Berlin CharlottenburgThe former heart of West Berlin, the upmarket Charlottenburg celebrated its 300 year anniversary in 2005. The area is noted as being the location of Schloss Charlottenburg, one of the Germany's largest surviving royal residences. A popular shopping and residential area, the area's rich cultural history attracts many visitors who stay in a comfortable choice of Charlottenburg apartments.
In addition to Charlottenburg Palace, the area has several popular attractions to entertain visitors. The Jüdisches Theater Berlin, although a Jewish theatre, attracts people from a range of cultures. Contemporary artists and prominent Jewish personalities alike, have helped to make the theatre a prominent landmark. Visitors to the area can also while away the day at the neighbouring Berlin Zoo. Home to over 13,000 animals including a pair of panda bears, the zoo is a great way for families to enjoy a day together.
As might be expected, Charlottenburg boasts a wide choice of restaurants catering to every possible taste. For German fare, head to the Restaurant Grolman where exposed brick walls, comfortable leather chairs and a friendly atmosphere complement a varied yet traditional menu. Those wishing to sample Greek cuisine should stop by the Taverna Santorini, where diners enjoy a complimentary shot of ouzo before relaxing into the intimate atmosphere of the restaurant itself.
The History of Charlottenburg
Charlottenburg can be traced back to the Middle Ages, although it was not chartered as a town until April, 1705. The significance of the town gradually increased, withstanding French occupation by Napoleon and his troops in the early 19th century, before developing as a major recreation area for Berliners. The effects of World War I saw a huge influx in inhabitants, leading to Charlottenburg becoming the second biggest city after Berlin. The unification of Germany initially affected the area's reputation as the historic centre of Berlin, but nonetheless, it remains a popular destination and residential area.
Providing a comfortable base from which to explore the attractions in the area, Charlottenburg apartments are a popular choice of holiday accommodation for visitors to Berlin.
