Bali Villa: The Ylang Ylang

Hidden within a culturally-drenched village along the southeast coast and overlooking the Badung Strait, this contemporary-Asian six bedroom beachfront villa in Bali oozes luxury with interiors revealing exquisite tastes and sophisticated facilities for 14 guests, including a15-metre pool, a gym and a home theatre.

This stylish and glamorous Sanur holiday accommodation with hints of Versace and European touches exudes elegance and luxury with its black and gold tones throughout.  This secluded and magical retreat features a villa with 6 en-suite bedrooms that are located in 2 wings that border the 15-metre pool and deck.  All of the well-appointed and spacious bedrooms – with sumptuous cream, brown and gold tones – feature canopied beds, high ceilings, air conditioning and patio doors.

There are 2 master, 4-poster, king-size bedrooms that have en-suite bathrooms with a sunken bathtub, a walk-in rain shower, a terraced area with outdoor furniture and a private plunge pool looking out to the sea.  Next to these are 2 queen-size, 4-poster bedrooms with sliding glass doors that lead to en-suite bathrooms with mini-sunken bathtubs that double as showers (massage and traditional Balinese style).  And finally, adjoining the queen rooms are 2 junior bedrooms furnished with twin beds and en-suite bathrooms with showers.

In the heart of the villa, there is a two-storey, open-sided main pavilion with an impressive 11-metre high atrium that looks out across the gardens and pool to the beach.  The living area is furnished with large floor cushions, a deep daybed and comfy sofas.  At the far end, under a low-ceiling, the formal dining area is dominated by a wood table accommodating 12 to 14 guests on cushioned chairs. Separate, and behind closed doors, lies the fully-equipped kitchen.

The theatre room is located at the end of the living area and features satellite TV and an extensive wall screen.  It is furnished with a black sofa bed – massive enough for the entire family – hundreds of DVDs and a surround-sound music system. This cozy room also doubles as a study with a well-stocked library, a computer with broadband Internet and a printer.

Two staircases at opposite ends of the living pavilion ground-floor lead up to a timbered gallery. Mezzanine-style, this open-sided space overlooks the living-dining area and contains 2 intimate dining tables and an intimate lounging area with gigantic daybed that reveals fabulous ocean views and comes flanked on opposite ends by a rooftop deck scattered with floor cushions and a rooftop massage deck with 2 massage beds. 

The 15-metre pool is the central point of the landscaped seaside gardens.  Adorned with ornamental water fountains, the salt water pool is surrounded by a stone deck with sun beds.  From here, manicured lawns stretch down to the gardens’ end beside the river and there is a timbered sundeck complete with sun loungers with fabulous unobstructed views across the beach.

At each side of the lawn and overlooking the beach, is a contemporary take on the traditional balé pavilion: one, designed for romantic dining and sun-filled lunches and the other for relaxation and massage. These contrast with two miniscule Hindu shrines nearby.

The glass-fronted gym is located in the garden and equipped with an exercise bike, a Delta Infinity Gravity walker and a 4-person infra-red sauna.

This six bedroom beachfront villa in Bali rests in the quiet coastal village of Saba, in an area collectively known as Ketewel, within Bali’s eastern Gianyar Regency.  This eastern coastal region is an exceptionally wonderful part of the island – naturally beautiful, amazingly unspoilt and packed with cultural and scenic attractions. Saba is the quintessential Balinese village, distinctive with its stretches of emerald rice fields and coconut groves, dotted with a harmonious mix of unobtrusive foreign residences and local dwellings.

The villa’s gardens stretch down to Saba Beach with its shimmering black sands – a reminder of Bali‘s volcanic heritage.  The deserted stretch of beach offers unobstructed panoramas with stunning views across the Badung Strait and Nusa Penida, (one of Bali’s smaller sister islands). And on a clear day, the silhouette of the towering volcano, Mount Agung, is visible in the distance. Sunrises are a spectacular treat here, especially over Nusa Penida’s limestone cliffs.

A tidal river flows between the beach and villa; Peanut River alters its course with every changing season, so access to the beach requires crossing the river half of the year by way of a small boat provided by the villa.  It is safer to swim in a protected bay area just 5 minutes westwards (or head south to the calm waters of nearby Sanur).

The offshore reef here is renowned for its surf breaks, and there’s excellent surfing to be had 10 minutes in either direction of the villa.  Nearby Mascheti Beach has world-class surf breaks and hosts international surfing tournaments.

Balinese Hindu purification ceremonies are held beside the sea at nearby sacred Pura Segara sea temple; Purification ceremonies are held at the nearby Pura Segara sea temple, and prayer blessings are performed daily at the main temple situated at the entrance to the road leading to the villa.

This Sanur holiday accommodation is close to Sanur (15km) for restaurants, water sports and safe swimming; Ubud (16km) for culture, arts and yoga; Bali Safari and Marine Park (5km) for family entertainment; and Sukawati (6km) for arts and crafts.
