Bali Villa: The Istana

With an incredible cliff location resting 100 metres above the Indian Ocean sits this gated four bedroom villa in Bali in the southwestern tip in the Bukit area and just 10 minutes to Uluwatu Beach.  The 5-suite estate – which is a blend of understated modern architecture and traditional Indonesian detailing – features 2 swimming pools, a relaxation bale, a main house, a self-contained, single-storey master suite and a children’s wing.

This holiday rental accommodation in Uluwatu can sleep up to 16 guests.  There are 5 bedroom suites (each with double beds) that can sleep up to 10 guests and the games and children’s wing can sleep up to 4 small children, infants and 2 domestic staff.

The standalone master-suite, with spectacular views of the ocean, has its own entrance way, parking facilities, and private swimming pool with an outdoor shower and lounge chairs.  It is divided into a covered deck with chairs, a living area and a bedroom with an expansive en-suite bathroom with a sunken bathtub and a walk-in shower.  Glass doors open to an outside walled area complete with an outdoor rain shower and a cushioned daybed.

There are 2 garden suites and 2 ocean suites located in the single-storey main house.  All have Bali-style en-suite bathrooms including bathtubs and indoor and outdoor showers.  The garden suites are complemented by a private walled sun-lounging area with a raised wooden deck and daybeds.

The children’s wing, which is located on the upper floor at the back of the property, is devoted entirely to children.  It features a lounge/living space complete with sofas, a pool table, Playstation, TV/DVD and Bose sound system. A bedroom with fitted bunks provides sleeping space for 5 kids and there is also a nanny’s room.

The main house also features a living room, a dining room and an audio-video room.  The open-air living room is designed to maximise the view and is furnished with segmented daybed-style sofas, ottomans and a large bar with barstools.  Two symmetrical wings attached to the living room accommodate the dining room to one side and the AV room to the other.  The dining room has glass doors on 4 sides for open-air living and features a teakwood table that comfortably seats 12 guests.  A guest toilet is located next to it.

The audio visual room is an air-conditioned home theatre with a massive relaxation couch that easily seats the guest capacity and faces a wide-screen projection TV and entertainment centre. A guest toilet is located next door.

Spectacularly positioned on the cliff top with breathtaking views of the ocean and Suluban Beach is the large relaxation bale that incorporates a lounging area, a bar, and a sunken tatami table with cushioned seating for 12 people and a monolithic slab of black granite that extends into the garden to form a gas barbeque.

The outside garden and swimming pool area of the property stretches 32 metres across the front of the estate and features the main infinity-edge swimming pool set within the two-level manicured lawn.

This four bedroom villa in Bali is set back 40 metres from the cliff’s edge and 100 metres above the rolling surf of the Indian Ocean.  It is located in the Bukit area on the southwest tip of the island – a limestone plateau rising sharply from the sea, fringed by steep cliffs – and boasts some of the most idyllic beaches in Bali, including Balangan, Dreamland, Bingin and Padang Padang.

Uluwatu Beach is only a 10-minute walk from the villa while the Uluwatu Temple, one of the most revered temple’s on the island, is just a 5-minute drive away.
