Vondelpark apartments offer a prime location for everything you could want from a holiday destination in Amsterdam.The extensive history of Vondelpark is one of the main draws for tourists. Vondelpark was established in 1864 mainly by a group of people led by Christiaan Pieter van Eeghen. An architect, Jan David Zocher, was commissioned to design the landscape. In 1865, it was opened to members of this association and for other citizens in exchange for a small fee. In 1867, to honor writer Joost van den Vondel, a statue was erected in the park which continues to be a main draw today. In 1873, a bandstand was constructed. A beautiful rose garden was planted in the center of the park in 1936 and adds considerable life and vitality to surroundings and the park as a whole. A children's playground was constructed in the 1960's as well as an open air theater in the 1980's. The 1990's saw a considerable increase in visitors to the park with 10 million annually. There are also many attractions in the area for holiday-goers. Vondelpark features the historic Netherlands Filmmuseum, located in Vondelparkpaviljoen. This movie theater screens everything from 1920's silent films to more contemporary, digital works. Vondelpark also features the Vondelpark Openluchttheater, which is an open air theater where many music and theatrical acts perform. All performances are free to enter and view, however, the city asks for a small donation of one euro per person. There are also many horecas (Restaurant/Cafe) in the area including Groot Melkhuis, Vertigo, and Vondeling. All of these are rather popular bars/restaurants and offer excellent food items and service to patrons. |
