Public transportation is available for trips longer than walking distance; a train called "Circumvesuviana" offers shuttle service between Sorrento and the city of Naples. There are also ferries to Capri and Naples, and bus service offers transportation to smaller villages along the coastline, including the wonderful Positano. Sorrento is home to many architecturally important buildings. Sedile Dominova, built in 1349, has a 16th century trompe l'oeil cupola constructed from a tin-glazed pottery called majolica. The Sedile was a gathering place for the men of Sorrento, who enjoyed conversing with one another and debating the philosophical issues of the time. This is still a beloved pastime at the Sedile, although women now congregate there as well. The weather on the Amalfi Coast is almost always warm and sunny, with a gentle breeze that sweeps inland from the bay.
